Llansteffan Walk - Sun 29th April


Andrew B shows us a great route which includes the beaches along the Towy Estuary, Llansteffan and its hilltop castle, and the surrounding countryside of this special area.


Meeting: County Hall Car Park at 0930, or at the start point in Llansteffan at approx 1030.


Distance: 7 Miles


Difficulty: Easy

Evening Walk - Sand, Sea and Singleton Park: Thursday 26th April


This Thursday is the start of the fortnightly evening walks on the programme.  This week there is a pleasant stroll through Singleton Park and the foreshore.  Less than 3 miles and very, very easy!  Followed by the option of a drink at the Pub on the Pond. Meet at the Pub on the Pond car park (corner of Mumbles Road and Sketty Lane) at 7.30 pm.  Further details from Robert (07981 963 681).

Westbourne Pub on Saturday Evening


A few of us are planning to meet at the Westbourne pub on Bryn-y-Mor Road, Brynmill, on Saturday (28th) evening for a few drinks from about 7.30 (but not too many for those that are going to Andy's walk the next day!). Call Doug on 07766652837. All welcome!

Fan y Big - Sunday 22nd April
Dave takes us on another walk taking in the best of the Brecon Beacons. A strenuous, but rewarding, walk that scales Fan y Big and Gwaun Cerrig Llwydion. This walk entails some exposed conditions and steep climbs and is recommended as a training walk for anyone going on Dave's Bulgaria trip.
Distance: 9 miles
Difficulty: Strenuous
Start time: 0930 at County Hall

Sunday 15th April - Brecon Beacons - Carmarthen Fan


Doug leads a high-level walk up the escarpments of the Carmarthen Fan - a vast ridged range amongst mountainside lakes.


Distance: 7.5 miles


Difficulty: moderate / strenuous


Start point: County Hall at 9.30am or at the start point by Llandeusant at 10.30am. If you wish to meet at the start point please contact Doug on 07766652837.


REMINDER - Simon Yates- The Wild Within Thursday 24th May at the Grand Theatre.


Following the successful beyond the Void tours in 2008-2009, mountaineer Simon Yates, is back on tour promoting his new book,The Wild Within.Simon is one of the world's most prolific mountaineers of his generation. He is best known for being the climber forced to cut Joe Simpson's rope during their fateful descent of Peru Siula Grande - a story retold in Joe's best selling book the BAFTA award-winning film,Touching the Void. TT's Trip to Forest of Dean and Wye Valley Trip 2012

Hi folks! For all of you who are coming on this weekend's trip details of the weekend are as follows:-

We are staying in the Jovial Colliers pub. If you need directions go directly to the Jovial Colliers website.

We all will be meeting on Friday night between 6p.m - 8p.m. There is a good range of pub food suitable for everyone including the veggie's!
Please could everyone bring a sleeping bag and Towel. If you don't remember them don't worry there's even a contingency plan that you can hire a duvet and towel!
Breakfast is included in the price. The pub will provide packed lunches at a charge of £5 alternatively everyone can bring their own packed lunches and food and there are cool storage boxes in the bunkhouse! We will be eating in the pub on Saturday and Sunday evening.

The walks:-

Saturday 7th April - Symonds Yat

Distance: 10 miles/16 km
Time: 5 Hours
Grade: Moderate

The walk takes us along the river wye passing under the watchful eye of Goodrich Castle, before climbing up to the famous viewpoint at Symonds Yat Rock. Wandering under Coldwell Rocks through to Welsh Bicknor, before returning to Kerne Bridge.

Sunday 8th April - Lybbrook - A Star of the West End

Distance: 7 miles/11km
Time : 4 hours
Grade: Moderate

The walk takes us high up on the east side of the Lyd Valley along the old railway lines, before making a lonely journey through some of the quietest woodland in the forest. The return high up the west side of the valley offers rewarding views and glimpses of some of Lybbrook's listed buildings. The good news is the start point is directly from the jovial Colliers pub door! Happy Days!

Monday 9th April - Coppet Hill

Option 1 - Walking Coppet Hill - A medieval 'weapon of mass destruction'.

Distance: 6.5 miles/10.5 km
Time: 3.5 hours
Grade: Moderate

Coppet Hill is almost cast adrift in an enormous loop in the River Wye and this walk takes in the fine views that can be enjoyed from it's summit ridge. The walk returns along the bank of the Wye after visiting one of the most tranquil spots of the entire valley.

Option 2 - Kayaking on the river Wye

Provisional places have been booked with Wye Pursuits adventure company www.wye.pursuits.co.uk

1/2 day kayaking on the river wye. Take the opportunity to kayak in a Canadian Kayak down the river wye. An 8 mile journey will take two and a half hours. Cost - £15. I will take names of those interested in Kayaking on arrival on Friday.
