Tawe Trekker Newsletter - 20th December 2009

Hi everyone,

Just a short newsletter this week. There's no walk next weekend so the next walk will be in the new year!

Sunday 3rd January 2010 - Weobley Castle and Cheriton.
Martin will lead us on this walk along the southern edge of the Loughor estuary and then onto Woebley Caslte followed by the secluded valley of Burry Pill before returning beside the marsh.
Distance: 5 miles
Difficulty: Easy
Meet at 0930 at County Hall car park
Any questions, or if you wish to meet at the start point please call Martin on 07743 593068

Don't forget it's pub night from 8pm at the Brunswick on Christmas Eve.

And finally, Jon Gray (from Caerphilly) wishes all the Tawe Trekkers a very merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
I'm sure that goes for all of us! Have a great time whatever you're doing?!

Trudi

Brecon Beacons: The Neuadd Reservoir Walk - Saturday 19th Dec

On Saturday we'll follow a route around the Neuadd valley and reservoir. This walk will include high ridges, the highest mountains in southern Britain (Pen y Fan) and other peaks; Corn du and Cribyn.

Please note that I've cut the route slightly (from the original Programme info), as we are having to work against the very short days at this time of year. The route will therefore be around 8 miles, not 10.

The walk is rated at moderate-to-strenuous as there are a couple of steep climbs and some difficult terrain (verging on scrambles). The elevated and exposed positions on this route mean that people should come prepared with plenty of layers, hat/gloves, good boots, and decent waterproofs. Here's the lowdown:

Difficulty: Moderate to Strenuous

Distance: 8 Miles

Ascent: 850 Metres

Meeting Points: County Hall at 0930, or the start point at the pumphouse near Neauadd reservoir at 1030.

Please call me, Doug, if you plan to meet at the start point. I will then be able to confirm whether the walk is still going ahead (i.e. in case of bad weather) and advise on directions.

For details call Doug on 07766 652837.

Programme Meeting - Thursday 17th Dec at the Vivs

This Thursday we'll be meeting at the Vivs pub in Sketty (at 1930) to put the next programme together. As always we need ideas for walks and events, and people willing to organise and lead them. It's usually easier if contributors turn up in person, but if you can't make it to the meeting and still want something included then get in touch with Trudi (07807726441) or Emyr (07846879210). Hope to see you there!

That's about it for now. Before I go, a very Happy Christmas to everyone!

Cheers,

Doug

Tawe Trekkers Newsletter - 6 December 2010

Llynfi Valley walk - Saturday 12th

This walk starts in Maesteg and then weaves it way up to Margam Park and will see us take in part of the Coed Morgannwg Way before crossing fields and into the historic village of LLangynwyd. Here we can stop off at what is reputedly the oldest pub in Wales before returning back to Maesteg via Gorth.

Distance: 7 miles

Difficulty: easy / moderate (nb: a farmer has boxed off where a stile should be so be prepared to leap over one fence!).

Meeting Point: 9.30am by County Hall or 10.15am at the start point (Maesteg train station car park). Please phone Christian if you want to meet at the start point (07791089942).

Reminder - programme meeting Thursday 17th from 7.30

This is just a reminder that if you want to lead a walk, or have a suggestion for a walk or a social event please attend the programme meeting. This will be held in the Vivian pub in Sketty starting at 7.30pm. If you are unable to attend this meeting but would like to contribute to the TTs please contact either Trudi (07807726441) or Emyr (07846879210).

Pre-festive drinks - Saturday 12th

In these times where everything apart from my flat is trimmed up to the maximum, why not come out and be jolly for a few drinks and a possible moving of the arms and legs (that's dancing by the way). The plan is to meet at Smooth Mediterranean Coffee Lounge at 7.30pm which is adjacent to the Pumphouse in the marina (they do great tapas if you are peckish!) . Then there's the option of some jazz in the Milkwood Jam (£10 so a bit pricey) or an 80s spandex night in Sin City (cheap as chips at £3). We will see where the mood takes us. If you have any queries please contact Christian (07791089942).

I think that's it for another week!

Christian
