Newsletter - Beacons Horseshoe

Beacons Horseshoe - This Sunday

This Sunday (3rd June) we'll be embarking on an impressive ridge walk in the Brecon Beacons. The high-point (quite literally) of this walk is the Pen-y-Fan peak at 886 metres above sea level.

Starting from the edge of the Neuadd Reservoir we'll ascend onto the eastern ridge: This is probably the steepest and most difficult part of the walk but after this we should be rewarded with stunning views, providing the weather is clear enough!

Continuing along ridges and between peaks in roughly a horseshoe-shaped path, we'll eventually return to the start point from along the other side of the Neuadd Reservoir.

Total distance: approximately 8 miles.

Difficulty: Moderate, but be aware of a potentially tricky ascent at the start.

Meet: At County Hall Car Park at 0930 or at 1030 at the start point (grid reference 032 180 on the OS map).

The start point of the walk can be a bit difficult to find as it's somewhat off the beaten track. However, if you want to meet us up there and want to discuss directions, give me a call on 07766652837 beforehand (or when you get lost on the way up!)

Roughly speaking though, you go up the A465 then take the next left after the A470 roundabout. Follow signs to Pontsticill, pass through the said village, then keep following the country road past Pontsticill Reservoir and up to the Neuadd Reservoir.

For more details give me, Doug a ring on 07766652837!

Programme Planning Meeting - Thursday 14th June - Vivian, Sketty

My God, is it that time again; how tempus fujits! Yes, on the above date we'll be meeting at the Vivian pub in Sketty at 7pm to put together our Summer Programme.
As always, we will be very grateful for walk leaders to come forward to contribute to the programme, so if you'd like to lead a walk, or have ideas for interesting routes, then bring details along with you on the night, or preferably, get in touch with our esteemed Programme Secretary, Christian, beforehand.
Christian's number is 07840100649, or you can send any info by email to this address.

As you can see the Viv's have already set up the back room for our purposes, so make sure you come along to make best use of the facilities.

Regular Pub Night - Thursday

Lastly but not leastly, we'll be meeting in the Brunswick for the usual fortnightly gathering from about 8 on Thursday. (That's 8pm by the way)

All the best,

Doug

Newsletter - Gower Weekend with TBR!

Hi all,

This weekend the Tiger Bay Ramblers are coming down to Swansea for a weekend of walking (amongst other things), and guess who's joining them? That's right - us! Carys from TBR will lead the walks on Saturday and Sunday, and Doug from TT will lead the walk on the Monday. If you want to go the whole hog and camp with the TBRs, then give Carys a call on 07812610260.

There's walking everyday, and here's the lowdown from Carys for Saturday and Sunday's walks.

Saturday 26 May - Walk to Caswell from Swansea

Start Point - Blackpill Carpark @ 1030

About 8 miles mostly along the curve of Swansea Bay and the cliff path past Mumbles.

Sunday 27 May - Penmaen and Parkmill

Start Point - Penmaen Carpark @ 1000

9.30am Drive to Penmaen car park (we’ll need/want to car share as much as possible, so can I have some volunteers please?). Walk is about 9 miles, including cliff paths, beach, fields and a hill. Walking boots are recommended as we've had lots of rain recently.

Find a pub/restaurant for dinner – probably Mumbles or Swansea city centre. TTers are welcome to join in on the evening feast!

...and here's the TT-led walk:

Monday 28 May - Clyne Common and Valley

Start Point for TT's: Blackpill Carpark@ 1000, (GR619908) walk the mile or so up the hill and meet the TBRs at their campsite at about 1030.

The walk is 5.5 miles long, heads up through woodlands and the open expanses of Clyne Common for excellent views over Gower. We then pass through upper Killay and return down the Clyne Valley path. Call Doug on 07766652837 for more details.

Give Doug or Carys a call for more details. Hope that we have a good show of TTers on the walks, especially Monday's!

Cheers,

Doug

Lost Property
Our lost property department informs me that a posh Olympus digital camera somehow found its way into the wrong rucksack and has been returned to the walk leader. Possibly the owner put it in the wrong rucksack, or the owner of the rucksack inadvertently picked up the wrong camera. Don't know how it happened but give our Lost Property Manager(pictured) a ring on 07766 652837 to collect.
