Newsletter - Clyne Valley Walk on New Years Eve

Clyne Valley Walk - Sun 31st Dec (New Year's Eve!)

Yes we're in that strange and eerie hinterland; the ominous gap between Christmas and New Year where the dark nights bear down and the post festive hangover torments us against the relentless screening of particularly bad TV programmes.

Anyway, never mind all that and blow the cobwebs away with an easy stroll through Clyne Valley and Common - right on our doorstep in Swansea!

Meeting at 0930 at County Hall carpark, or at 0945 at the startpoint of the walk; the carpark in Blackpill just off Oystermouth Road.
The route is about 5 miles long and tables allowing we'll be stopping at the Woodman Pub for some grub post-ramble.

This is a lovely walk and it's hard to believe this tranquil playground is a stone's-throw from Swansea.

Oh, and if you stay in the house you might turn into a giant mince pie, forever.

If you need more persuading give me (Doug) a ring on 07766652837.

Stepping Stones Training - Sat 13th Jan

The Stepping Stones scheme is designed to provide short, easier walks to people who are new to rambling, or who may be less able to undertake longer walks. On the 13th January the Rambler's Association are running a course at the Swansea Guildhall to train people who are interested in leading such walks. I'll be going along to see what it's all about, and if you are interested in joining me could you please get in touch so I can ensure a place is available for you. The training is due to take place from 10am to 2pm.

Whether we will incorporate the scheme into our future programmes is uncertain at present, it's dependent on interest within the group and other factors. I have been involved with a voluntary scheme of similar aims in the past, and can say that providing this sort of opportunity to people who may not otherwise have the chance to enjoy the countryside can be highly rewarding for all concerned.

Remember, it's free, and you're sure to learn something you can take with you.

Happy New Year from Tawe Trekkers!

Newsletter - Felindre Walk and Yuletide Meal - Thu 28th Dec

Hello all,

Quite a sparse newsletter this week due to the festive lull. As people join in the frenzy to stock up on presents and booze though, just one item on the next walk.

Felindre/Llew Reservoir Walk and Sheperds Pub - Thu 28th Dec

If you're coming on this walk, and joining in for food afterwards at the Sheperds (an appropriately named pub for this time of year), bear in mind that the landlady will be taking orders in the carpark before the walk starts, so that our food will be closer to ready by the time we finish the route and are all starving! Some of Tiger Bay Rambler's should also be joining us for this so there'll be twice the festive cheer!

If you want more details on this walk and meal, please give Rob a bell on 07990807510.
