Tawe Trekkers Newsletter - Sunday 20th January 2013

Melin Court Falls - Sunday 27th January
Meeting point: Swansea Civic centre car park at 9.00 a.m or Melincourt Falls car park (SN 821 020) on the B4434
Grading - Moderate
Distance - 8 Miles

The walk on Sunday 27th January starts from the car park near Melincourt Falls and takes in forests, farmland and open moor with a close-up view of some wind turbines.  The walk is moderate which means that you need to wear good boots and be prepared for a couple of steep uphills – but it is well within the capabilities of the vast majority of the group.  It’s just less than 8 miles long with ascent of about 600 metres.  There will be lots of sheep and possibly lambs on much of the route so dogs must be under close control.  Meet at 9.00 at Swansea Civic Centre car park or 09:30 at Melincourt Falls car park (SN 821 020) on the B4434.  Please let Robert know if you are going there directly.  Further details from Robert - 07981 963 681.

This walk takes in the southern region of the National Park, making it a popular and interesting climb. This route ascends and descends by the well-known Minfordd Path.

Walk 2

The Dolgellau to Barmouth Mawddach Trail Railway Walk

Distance : 7 Miles
Approximate time - 4 hours.

The Mawddach Trail winds along the disused railway track on the southern edge of the spectacular mawddach estuary. Very flat walk with rewarding views across to Diffwys and the Rhinogs and up the estuary to Y Garn and the Arans beyond Dolgellau.

Sunday 3rd March

The Dysynni Valley and Castell y Bere.Start:

Start: Llanfihangel-y-pennant.
Distance: 6 miles (9.5 km)
Approximate time: 3 hours
Parking:  Llanfihangel-y-pennant.

Much of this route is in the quiet, hilly, attractive wooded country of the Dysynni and Cadair valleys, surrounded by mountains and lying near the foot of Cadair Idris. It is a relaxing walk. Historic interest is provided by the medieval church at Llanfihangel-y-pennant, the ruins of Castell y Bere and the remains of Mary Jones cottage. The most dramatic scenic feature is the view, from a number of different points in the later stages of the walk, of Craig yr Aderyn or Bird's Rock.

Robinson Crusoe and the Pirates

Christmas and New Year may be over but you can extend the festive fun by coming along to the Ostreme Players Pantomime next month! This year’s production is Robinson Crusoe and the Pirates which has all the usual panto ingredients such as excruciating jokes, innuendo and time-honoured set-pieces. It has the added attraction of featuring me singing a very bizarre version of ‘You’re the One that I want’ with the pantomime dame and labouring my way through (what is for me) an extremely fast and complicated dance routine.

There are 6 performances in all including two matinees:-

Wednesday 13th Feb at 7.30
Thursday 14th Feb at 7.30
Friday 15th Feb at 2.30
Friday 15th Feb at 7.30
Saturday 16th Feb 2.30
Sunday 16th Feb 7.30

If you would like to come along, please let me know which performance you would like to attend and I will make sure that you are grouped together on tables. These are laid out in cabaret fashion. Tickets are £7 (children £5).

Tickets tend to sell fast from now onwards so please let me know by Sunday 20th January if you’d like me to get you tickets. Alternatively, tickets can be obtained by calling the tickets hotline (07775 499387) but you’re likely to be dispersed amongst the rest of the audience.

Captain Seasalt (aka Graham)

St Dwynwen's Day Twmpath

There is a planned "Celtic Celebration" which is a Twmpath celebrating both St Dwynwen's Day and Robert Burns Day (albeit a day late) on Saturday 26th January in the Ystalyfera Social Club (formerly The British Legion).  If you fancy a wild evening celebrating the best of Welsh and Scottish traditional music and dance you know where to come!  Tickets are  £3.00 please contact Danielle on 07590905551.
