TT newsletter 26th August

Tawe Trekkers Newsletter 26th August 2012

Hi all

Hope those of you on the mid Wales weekend trip have had a great time!

This week brings us an epic 22 miler walk but well worth a go to raise money for Macmillan.

Saturday 1st September - Gower MacMarathon (Organised charity walk)

Join hundreds of other walkers for a spectacular linear 22-miler from Rhossili back to Mumbles which starts at 7.45am. If you have not already registered please go to http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Fundraising/Walkingevents/Sponsoredwalks/Wales/Gower%20Macmarathon.aspx

There is also a 14-miler route for those you who fancy something a little less strenuous!

I know quite a few TT folk are doing the full walk so if want to start together please contact Emyr on 07846879210.

Unfortunately I coming back from a week away so I won't be able to join you but I did do the walk a couple of you and it's a great way to see the Gower coastline!

That's it for this week.
Christian

Evening walk - Mumbles Head - Thursday 16th August

Thursday evening's walk takes in countryside and coast with a smattering of military history and architecture.  There'll be some fine views of Swansea Bay.  After a steep but short climb to Mumbles Hill Nature Reserve we'll see some remnants from the Second World War.  Further on the walk we get the chance to view Catherine Zeta-Jones new house and discuss its grand design.  Near here we get distant views across the Bristol Channel towards Ilfracombe.  The walk ends at The George (or Salt as it used to be known) and if you can't make the walk hopefully you can join us on the upstairs balcony from 8.30 pm (or inside if wet!).

Meeting place is Southend Boat car park (opposite The George) which is a little further down Mumbles Road from Southend car park (confusing, eh?).  Grid reference: SS 622 877.  See you at 7.00 pm.  Phone Robert on 07981 963 681 for further details.

South Gower Circuit - Sunday 19th August
I'll be leading you on a tramp around the South Gower. Starting at Penmaen we head inland over Cefn Bryn before entering woods and crossing fields to reach Horton. We then keep to the beautiful coastal path encompassing Oxwich Point, Oxwich Bay and (depending on the tides and energy levels) Three Cliffs Bay.

Distance: 14 miles (easily shortened if weather lets us down!)
Difficulty: Strenuous (due to distance)
Start time: 0930 at County Hall or 10am at National Trust Car Park in Penmaen.

Please contact Trudi on 07773 852162 if you plan to meet us at the start point or have any questions.

That's it for this week, hope you've all managed to enjoy the sunshine this weekend?!!
