Brecon Beacons: The Neuadd Reservoir Walk - Sat 5th Feb

On Saturday (a change from the usual Sunday!) we'll follow a route around the Neuadd valley and reservoir. This walk will include high ridges, the highest mountain in southern Britain (Pen y Fan) and other peaks - Corn du and Cribyn.

The walk is rated at moderate-to-strenuous as there are a couple of steep climbs and some difficult-ish terrain. The elevated and exposed positions on this route mean that people should come prepared with plenty of layers, hat/gloves, good boots, and decent waterproofs. It's worth a bit of a slog though for the dramatic views and atmosphere!

Difficulty: Moderate to Strenuous

Distance: 7.5 Miles

Ascent: 850 Metres

Meeting Points: County Hall at 0930, or the start point at the pumphouse near Neuadd reservoir at 1030.

Contact: Doug - 07766652837 (please call if you plan to meet at the start point).

The final version of the programme should be available shortly; just adding in/correcting info as people come back with changes but watch this space! Any questions about the programme please call me.

See you soon.

Cheers,

Doug

Ferryside Walk - Sun 23rd Jan

On Sunday, Robert (Bob) will be leading a walk on the Tywi estuary in Carmarthenshire. Much of the route is on quiet roads and farm tracks; however there are a few places that are very boggy so waterproof boots are essential if you don’t want wet feet. The route encompasses about 7.5 miles of pleasant countryside and views over Afon Tywi. (The photo shows a picture taken from a similar walk that we did in 2008).

Meet at County Hall at 9.30 am as usual. Alternatively meet at the start point, Ferryside car park, which is alongside the railway station (SN 366 104) at about 10:15. Note; if you are meeting directly at the start point please text Bob to let him know on 07981 963 681.

Pub and Curry Night - Sat 22nd Jan

As mentioned in an earlier newsletter, a night out is proposed for this Saturday (partly in response to the Christmas Meal which some couldn't attend because of snow!).

Plan is to meet in the Westbourne pub on Bryn-y-Mor Road from around 7.30pm, and then to one of the nearby curry houses at about 8.30. Would be good to get a few people out to properly see in the New Year!

For more details call me on 07766652837.

This is a change to the advertised walk which was going to be in Glyncorrwg (sorry folks I need to be back early!). We will be doing a classic Gower walk starting in Oxwich and weaving our way through the woods and coastline to Port-Eynon and then heading back inland via Horton back to Oxwich.

Distance: 7.5 miles

Difficulty: Easy

Thursday 13th - Programme meeting and AGM

The programme meeting and AGM will take place in The Vivian pub (Sketty) from 7.30pm onwards. As Doug has said previously, we would welcome some new blood into the committee and new ideas for socials / trips / walks. If you can't make the meeting but have a walk for the next programme contact either Emyr (07846879210) or Trudi (07773852162). If you are interested in taking a role in the committee please Doug (07766652837).

That's it for this week folks. Have a good one.
