Tawe Trekkers Newsletter - New Year 2011!

___________________________________

A sightly earlier than usual newsletter this time as some of us are about to disappear off to the Peak District for New Year, and IT facilities (along with time) will probably be limited when we're there. If you're coming on this weekend's trip and have any last minute questions then please contact Emyr or Trudi.

Meanwhile, looking ahead to the first local walk of 2011...

Waterfalls and Caves Walk - Pontneddfechan - Sun 9th Jan. NOTE EARLIER START TIME

Paul leads us up the River Nedd and down the River Mellte, exploring some of the most beautiful waterfalls and gorges in the country. This will include some moderately steep climbs. There will also be an option to view a cave so bring torches if you'd like to have a look at this!

IMPORTANT - Note that due to daylight, we will be meeting earlier than as stated on the Programme. So that's 900 at County Hall in Swansea, and 930 at the start point (The Angel pub in Pontneddfechan).

Distance: 9.5 Miles
Difficulty: Moderate/Strenuous
Meeting: 900 at County Hall or 930 at the start point
Contact: For more details, or if you wish to meet at the start point, call Paul on 07794969965.

Reminder - AGM and Programme Meeting - Thursday 13th Jan @ Vivs Pub in Sketty; 1930

A reminder that on Thursday 13th Jan we have a very important double-meeting for the TTs - a joint Programme Planning Meeting, and the AGM. For more details look at last week's newsletter, and any questions contact Emyr or Trudi for the Programme Meet, or me (Doug) about the AGM. Hope to see a good turnout, and if you need any encouragement then there will be free drinks all night! (Ok, that last bit was a lie).

With that, it just remains to wish you all a Happy New Year! Here's to 2011 and another year of great walking.

Cheers,

Doug

Tawe Trekkers Newsletter - 20th Dec 2010

We've been having some pretty bad weather lately (as if that needs saying!). Last night the snow stopped some people from getting to the Christmas Meal at Truffle :-( but those who did make it had a very enjoyable time. Thank you, Tyra, for organising a wonderful evening for us, even though you were not able to make it yourself!

I'd like to propose another meal in the New Year to (at least partially) make up for the problems caused this time around. I'm thinking of a date of Sat 22nd Jan, an
d a curry, though if anyone has any other preferences for date/venue then please let me know.

New Year Trip to the Peak District - 31st Dec

Next weekend we have our New Year trip to the Peak District. I don't think there's a lot more to be said for this as Emyr and Trudi have done such a good job in making arrangements thus far. Chris Price also has some walks planned and he is proposing to do longer and shorter options depending on preference/ability.

If you've got any questions about the trip, or you're not sure about lifts/what your travel arrangements are then please call Emyr on 07846 879210 or Trudi on 07807 726441.

Programme Meeting and AGM - Thursday 13th Jan, 7.30 @ The Vivs in Sketty

There's no pub night planned this week, b
ut it's worth mentioning that on the Thursday 13th Jan we will have our Programme Planning Meeting and AGM, where we will be putting together the next programme of walks and electing the new committee. New year, new start!

Most people will probably know already, but I, for one, wish to step down from my committee post of Chair this year, and give someone else a chance. Someone, hopefully, with fresh ideas and renewed energy! I'm more than happy to talk about the role of to anyone who might be interested in taking it over, to help as much as I can in handing it over to a new person, and would encourage people to stand for this, and all other available positions.
That said, I still wish to be involved on the TT committee - but in more of a supporting capacity. It's about time someone else had a go at Chair though! :-)

More details on this to follow so watch this space - in the meantime have a think about if you'd like to get involved in the New Year.

That's about it for this festive edition of the Newsletter. On behalf of the Tawe Trekkers, I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Cheers,

Doug
